Valentines Day Surprise

This Valentine's Day turned out to be very special and pretty fancy schmancy. I've actually never really celebrated Valentine's before and thought that this year would be like the rest, that we would spend a quiet evening at home, drinking wine, and doing homework. Honestly, I love the quiet nights at home and would've been completely happy with doing just that. However, Zach had other plans..

That morning, Z came to the room and said, "I think the Valentine's Day elf left you something in the bathroom." It was a card. Then as I hopped into my car to race off to work, I found a paper heart on my windshield.

That afternoon, Z came home early from school and surprised me with reservations at a nice restaurant here in Palo Alto called, Flea Street Cafe. We had been wanting to go there for a while, so when I heard that we were going, I was pumped. I got on a fancy dress, Z scheduled a babysitter, and we were off to the races.

I took a million pictures of us because its become a rarity for me to get all fancy schmancy, so I wanted to capture a few good pictures of me and my little family before we headed out to dinner. Thankfully our babysitter was more than happy to do just that before we left on our date.

Flea Street definitely lived up to its reputation. The wine pairing with our courses was spot on, the bread was delicious, and my meal was so good that it seemed to melt in my mouth. After our entree, our waiter brought out a special box that Z had given him before we arrived. It was a bracelet that I had been wanting for a while, but being the frugal person that I am would never have bought it for myself.

After dinner, we went home and said goodbye to our babysitter. Thinking that would be the end of our date, Z turned on the television and immediately I saw him in a bowtie with our son-Z knows I have a thing for bowties, but I can never seem to get him to wear one- on the screen. It was a video montage of our last year together. I have to say that it was pretty sentimental watching everything we've been through and all the wonderful changes that this year has brought. It was also crazy-and scary-to see how fast Sawyer has grown in just a short 4 months. Time, please slow down.

I included the video below:

Anyone who knows us personally knows that this over-the-top lifestyle is not us and rarely do we celebrate anything in a big way, but it was nice to be out of the ordinary last night and to live life big.

I love you, Z and Sawyer! Thank you for giving me this happily ever after.
